Software: FlickrFaves — Documentation

If you want to use a proxy, please configure it as you normally would in your operating system. For example, use “Internet Options” in the Windows XP control pane. FlickrFaves will detect these settings and use them. This is not 100% reliable and depends on the operating system you are using. Your mileage may vary…

To use FlickrFaves, follow these steps:

  1. Start FlickrFaves by double-clicking the JAR. If this does not work, you might have to execute the command java -jar FlickrFaves-1.0-b1.jar in a command line.

  2. You will now see the following window: Authorization Window Click the ‘Authorize…’ button to begin authorization. This will open a new window in your browser.

  3. In your browser, you will see something like this: Authorize on Flickr Click ‘OK, I’LL ALLOW IT’.

  4. You can now close your browser window and return to FlickrFaves. In FlickrFaves, you will see the following screen: Complete Authorization After completing step 3, click ‘Complete Authorization’.

  5. You have successfully registered FlickrFaves in your account and can now access all of your favorites! You will see the following download options screen: Download Options

The following options are available to you:

  • Download to: the directory where your favorites will be saved
  • Minimum resolution in at least one dimension (in px): Specify the minimum resolution. Favorites which are not available in a sufficiently high resolution are not downloaded. You specifiy only one value — for example, a minimum size of 1.024 would be satisfied by a picture of size 1.024×768 or 200×1.024. To download all images, set to zero.
  • Load at most this many images: When checked, FlickrFaves will download only as many of your favorites as you specify. The order of downloaded images is the same as when viewing favorites on Flickr. Note, however, that the actual number of downloaded images might be less than the number specified here if some images are not downloaded because of the minimum resolution constraint.
  • Overwrite existing images: overwrite images if their size differs from that of the image on Flickr.
  • Delete stale files: delete old favorites that are no longer in your faves; only works within the selected folder, only on files with extension .jpg and only on files whose file name consists only of and of at least seven digits.

If you want to exclude certain images from being downloaded, simply create an empty blocking file in the directory you are downloading to in the following format: <downloaddir>/.<numeric image id>.jpg.exclude — For example, to exclude this image you would create an empty file called .180492632.jpg.exclude — note that you can find the image id in the URL of its Flickr photo page.

You’re done, and once you started the download, your window should look something like this: Download Progress
